That Overwhelming Feeling

Feeling overwhelmed is part of human nature. It is very easy to become quickly overwhelmed with the things of this world. It is that pressure inside us that rises up like a pressure cooker, causing our minds to be completely scattered and unable to think clearly. A few months ago, I believe Abba revealed to me the source of feeling overwhelmed.

Being overwhelmed is our struggle to maintain the control of our own lives and the fear of losing that control

This morning, as I was praying about the many changes in our lives ahead, I gently whispered these words to Him – ‘help me not to be overwhelmed, but only be overwhelmed by your mercy and loving-kindness’. For you see, to be overwhelmed by His mercy and love towards us, brings us back to a place of humility. Humility removes our own ability to continue to struggle with maintaining control of our lives – thus giving the control back into the hands of the One that really knows what is best for us.  Humility takes the wind out of our own sails and allows the Breath of Life to blow us in the direction we should go.

The next time you begin to feel that ‘overwhelming – strangling around the neck feeling’, remember that the One that see’s tomorrow will take us through – only by His mercy and loving-kindness will we be able to see what He see’s – peace in the storm. Rest in that today! Know that we do not have to control anything, and that by our humility, He can and will take us to the ‘other side’.

  1. Thank you for your article. I do become overwhelmed periodically by all that goes on my life, and you brought to mind how I must go to the Father and let Him deal with it, and admit that I cannot do it on my own. It’s amazing how I get in the way and not let the Father help me.

    • Absolutely! It’s about relinquishing our own ability to run things and return back to the simplistic order He setup. We must be continually reminded because our natural tendencies are to take over ourselves. Shalom!
