The Journey Back Home

Shabbat Shalom!

Today, December 21, 2013, is my 43rd birthday. Today, I have decided to begin a blog. I have always enjoyed writing and I believe it is time to expand upon what Yahuweh has placed in my heart. For now, this blog will remain basic with no flashy backgrounds, pictures, fonts and videos. For those of you that know me, know that I am a very creative person. It was difficult to even consider writing this post today because I thought I would have to have all of my ducks in a row such as an awesome ABOUT section, the perfect background picture..etc.. I decided to keep it sterile for now because I want the content to outweigh the beauty of a website theme.

This blog will be used by myself as well as my wife, Rivkah. We are echad as the Father and the Son are echad. Thus, I look forward to not only sharing my writings here but also sharing Rivkah’s studies as well. Later, this may turn into a full blown website to house video teachings, audio teachings, etc.. but for now.. it will remain plain – however, the content is all but plain.

The name of our blog comes from my name DEREK. In Hebrew, this means ‘way, road, distance, journey, manner, course of life, conversation’. On my dedication day many years ago, a vision and prophecy went forth over me: I was seen walking down a dusty road/path with sandals on my feet and a staff in my hand – much like a shepherd. I was to be a leader at an early age. This vision perfectly matches my name and is coming into full bloom. I thank my mom for giving me such a beautiful name as Derek.

So, wherever you see the word way or road in the Scriptures, it is Derek (Strong’s Concordance #1870). In Psalm 1, David outlines the ‘way’ before us in that those that desire righteousness and delight in His Commandments, will be like a tree planted by streams of water. However, those that do not, shall be driven away like chaff by the wind and shall not stand in the judgment. What exactly was David saying? (by the way, I will write much about David in this blog) David was saying that it is not enough to walk on the road of righteousness – the way of righteousness on occasion – No, to desire His commandments and to meditate upon them is a course of life; it has to become engrained into your very nature. It takes much time for a tree to be deeply rooted and bear fruit – it’s leaves do not wither because it has found water deep inside the earth. It is planted by the Living Water, the streams flowing from the presence of Abba. The righteous trees do no perish when judgment comes, but are able to stand erect and tall – because it has found the source of life.

Not so the wicked – They delight only in the temporal – patience is a waste of time, so they plant themselves wherever they can but do not develop a strong root system. To mediate day and night and to delight in Abba’s Commandments is a waste of time to the wicked. It takes much time to develop a relationship with the Father. Father’s nature is developed within us as we spend time by the streams of Living Water. It is in our nature aligning with Father’s nature that ensures the road to life. A persons nature takes time to develop. A good judge of character is not in observing the extremities of a persons action but to observe it over a course of time. Eventually, whatever or whoever a person is plugged into will reveal itself.

A well trodden road is a road in which one travels upon continuously. There are plenty of examples along this road of those who have gone before us paving the way such as Yochanan, Eliyahu, Daniel, Enoch and Messiah Yahushua. Serving the Master is a way of life, our conversation and delight. For the righteous – this is the only way.

What road are you on today? There are only two roads – the way to life and the way to destruction. It’s a long journey to gain Life – don’t shorten it for the temporal; for those that do this will be driven away like the chaff and expelled from the very presence of the One who desperately desires to know you. The well trodden road (His teachings and instructions) is the only road that is worth traveling upon, for it’s the only road that will lead us back home again.

Blessings on your journey!

— Ensure you are planted by the Living Waters – a drought is coming soon!

  1. This teaching and other teachings I have read of your mothers is making me realize how must gain a more intimate relationship with the Father. It has been a battle for me, and articles that I have been led to read and the scriptures; has given me a better understanding of how I must travel the straight and narrow path He has set before me. I feel the Father has led me to your mother and now to your teachings as well.
You are in my prayers always.

    Shalom Lee

    • To Him Who sits on the throne, be all the praise! If we can only be a signpost that points the direction back to Abba – then that is what it’s all about; our reason for existing! Blessings to you Lee!
