A Matter of the Heart – What Do You Call Good?

As I sat and read 2 Kings 16-20, I wept because Yahuweh (the Lord) is looking for people like Hezekiah who did not back down from the face of the enemy but stood up before him with a trust only in his Elohim to deliver. In these passages, we see how the chosen people of Elohim (God) went astray in their heart to follow after other gods to serve them. What makes the human heart not want to serve Elohim and obey His commands but go after other gods to serve them? Because other gods make allowances for humanity to do what is right in its own eyes; to harvest from within its heart what pleases its flesh and restrains not what it desires to do or create. Until we grab a glimpse of the One true Creator, a revelation of the face of Elohim, we will only see to do what we deem is right in our own eyes because that is how the other mighty ones desire to be worshipped.

However, the One true Elohim desires to be worshipped by what He deems right in His own eyes because He knows it leads to life for those who choose to follow Him. This is how to worship Him in spirit and in truth. To be born of Him is to interact with Him, Spirit to spirit, with communication that is based on what He calls truth – what He declares right.

Father Elohim, seal my eyes shut if I fail to see and do what You have called right in Your eyes. Let it be done to me as it was to Sampson who saw and did only what he deemed right in his own heart, that he would not look upon another day but sit in darkness only to realize that his perception of right was not based upon what You said was right. Only until I receive a revelation of Your face, to see You as You are, and as You see, will I be able to perceive that to do what is right in my own eyes is to follow the path wide that leads to the grave.

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil gave new eyes to the eternal one’s who ate from it – eyes to discover a different way to find what is good through the illuminated path that was forged within their heart. They chose not to taste and to see that You alone are good but to determine for themselves what tastes good. To do what seems right in our own eyes is to fail to apprehend the truth of the understanding that what You say is good, is good and what You call evil, is evil. We took on the responsibility to judge between the two and we followed after what seemed to bring our heart the greatest pleasure – freedom from what we perceived to be an eternal state of slavery to Your defining attributes of goodness. In that day, we died to live eternally without You – forever separated from Your love.

In walking this newly illuminated path, or as it is called, following the heart, are we not worshipping our own way as though we have elevated the great god, ‘I’ to sit in Your place? The only way to recover from doing what is right in our own eyes is for You to give us a new heart to perceive in truth what You call good and what You call evil. My goodness won’t get me back to You because my goodness is based upon a moral code, established upon the shifting ‘absolutes and standards’ of what I have learned of what brings the heart the greatest pleasure. Every moment of every day I must make a choice between doing good or doing evil. There is no foundation of good within me, only a wickedness of heart to rightly excuse my actions based upon how I see justice – how I view life from a perverted lens of self. Simply, I cannot call anything good because my heart contains no reference to what good is.

There is none good but You O’ Elohim. Give me a heart to only follow after what You deem is right in Your own eyes. I no longer desire to make that determination from a place of skewed perception of what tastes good. You saw I would never recover from the eternal state of living without You. How do I find the life You desired all along to give me? How can I live in peace from the burden of always deciding what is right according to my own standards? This weight is too much to bear!

You answered. You sent Your Son to pay the debt found within the darkened spirit of man and to correct the erroneous way that was birthed within his heart by the departure from Your ways, Your commands, and Your vision of ‘right’. Your Love was sent to remove my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh in its place. You have given me a new heart, and my vision is made clear.

I now am able to view the world as you see it, and the state that it is in because now I see the hardened heart of humanity that still desires to follow the course of what it deems is right in its own eyes. Oh Creator of the universe, launch an attack of love, even so now as the earth reels and shakes under the nations who will stop at nothing to declare their own way is right. There is no peace without You. Mankind will cease to exist if he continues to ‘follow’ what he deems is right in his own eyes.

We call, as a unified people with a new heart of flesh, and a new spirit within us,  for a revolution of love, that no man should perish but have everlasting life. Let the King of love be established on earth as He has been established within our hearts, truly illuminating the darkness with the light of His Face. Come, Messiah, come and call back into order Your creation as it was when you first spoke, ‘let there be…’  – Amein!

“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith Yahuweh, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people.”—Jeremiah 31:33

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your Elohim.”—Ezekiel 36:26-28

Shalom and joy,

Derek
